LG: Apple to launch 8K iMac this year

Apple launched its iMac with Retina 5K display last fall, and it’s the sharpest computer the company has ever sold to consumers. But that may soon change, at least according to a statement made by LG recently.

9to5Mac recently noticed that an LG release published last week has a clear statement made by LG pointing to a new 8K display from Apple. “Apple has also announced that they will release the ‘iMac 8K’ with a super-high resolution display later this year,” LG said in the document, which refers to 8K ultra high-definition broadcasts in Japan and Korea. Apple hasn’t actually announced anything along those lines.

It seems likely to us that one of two things happened: LG is indeed working on an 8K display with Apple and someone accidentally slipped that information into this document. Or LG just made a mistake and published something that’s just not true. If Apple does really have an 8K iMac coming, it’s possible we’ll see it later this year if the company refreshes its iMac with Retina 5K display.
