Galaxy Tab S2 rumored to debut next month with a slimmer design (+photos)

It’s been a little under a year since Samsung unveiled its best tablets ever with the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Tab S 8.4. Now it looks like the company could be gearing up to release two more high-end tablets with an improved design and some upgraded hardware.

According to SamMobile, the new Galaxy Tab S2 will come in slightly smaller 9.7-inch and 8-inch variants. Both models will apparently be just 5.4mm thick, compared to last year’s 6.6mm Galaxy Tab S 8.4. The new devices will also reportedly pack a new 64-bit Exynos processor and run Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box.

Otherwise we’re expecting the same 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, 8-megapixel rear camera and 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. The display should still be Quad HD quality, though the resolution may drop slightly to 2048 x 1536 pixels for the Galaxy Tab S2.

That sounds like a pretty nice package, though hopefully Samsung can find a few other ways to improve on last year’s model. Otherwise it may have trouble convincing anyone to upgrade from a slightly bulkier Galaxy Tab S that offers pretty much the same power under the hood.

The Galaxy Tab S2 will apparently be announced in June ahead of a global launch. Hopefully we’ll learn more about the new high-end tablets soon.
