Galaxy Note 5 release date in August to beat iPhone 6s, report says

We’ve already seen a few rumors claim the Galaxy Note 5 will arrive earlier than expected, but this is the first time we really believe it. A new report from The Wall Street Journal says Samsung will push the phablet’s unveiling up by a few weeks to better compete with Apple’s upcoming iPhones..

One anonymous insider revealed that the Galaxy Note 5 is now set to debut in mid-August. Samsung has announced each new Note in early September at the IFA expo in Berlin for the past several years. The event is apparently set to take place in a “major U.S. city,” though Samsung still hasn’t decided on the exact location.

The news comes after a particularly rough year for Samsung. The company has struggled to compete with Apple in the premium market while Chinese phone-makers like Xiaomi chew away at the low end. Recent reports also suggest that the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge haven’t been a huge success so far.

The Galaxy Note 5 is expected to feature a high-end design and plenty of cutting edge specs. That means a metal and glass build like the Galaxy S6 along with a larger Quad HD display, a powerful camera, and a new in-house Exynos processor. We’re guessing Samsung also has plans to upgrade the S Pen stylus that comes which each of its Note products.

If Samsung does launch the Galaxy Note 5 a few weeks early, it could give the company a chance to drum up even more hype before Apple steals the spotlight with its new iPhones.
